Dear Galilee Family and Friends:

On Tuesday, January 12,  Haiti was struck by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake, centered 10 miles west of Port-au-Prince. The quake has caused widespread damage, casualties and structural damage. At this point, authorities are unsure as to just how much damage the quake has caused but know that its impact was vast and intense.

In times like these, it is important for communities, but especially the "Body of Christ" to band together to provide support to our neighbors in need.  As Pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, we will respond with love and compassion to those who are suffering from the aftermath and devastation of the worst earthquake in Haiti in 200 years.  In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday, I challenge every member and friend to "Live the Dream" and partner with us in prayer and assist us in providing resources in the following ways:

·         Bring a Special Offering for Haiti on this Sunday Morning

·         Attend the community prayer service in honor of Dr. M. L. King, Jr. and the Haitian Survivors at St. Stephens Missionary Baptist Church located at 5000 Noble Street, Winston-Salem on Monday, January 18th at 7 PM.  Please bring medical supplies (band aids, over the counter medications) and food supplies (rice, beans and sugar) to the service. If you are unable to the service, you may bring the items to Galilee on Sunday. Dr. Sir Walter Mack, Jr will be the Guest Speaker.

·         Galilee Missionary Baptist Church is a partner within the Lott Carey Foreign Mission Convention.  Our financial support will be given to Lott Carey who has an extraordinary track record in making sure that the financial resources will make it to the families and communities in need.  On Sunday Morning I encourage everyone to bring an offering for our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Additionally, we are waiting for more information and direction from Dr. Gregory Moss (General Baptist State Convention President and Vice-President of Lott Carey) and Dr. David Emmanuel Goatley (Executive-Secretary Treasurer). They will be sending a list of additional items that will be collected in the US and sent to Haiti with one of our US-based mission partners.

With Hope and Thanksgiving,

Pastor Nathan E. Scovens

Dear Galilee and Friends,

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised!

Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1 KJV) Optimism is the determination to see more in something than there is. When looking through the lens of optimism and faith, Galilee Missionary Baptist Church has an "Illustrious Past and a Bright Future". The church is God's best hope for this world in which we live and it serves as the pillar of strength for future growth and success in our community. To that end, God is calling us to walk by faith and not by sight as we endeavor to model a lifestyle of generosity and commitment to those who are searching for hope and in need of transformation. Make no mistake about it, God has spoken, the vision is clear and Galilee Missionary Baptist Church has been called to develop a campus that will meet the spiritual, physical, social, recreational, and economic needs of God's people. However, to accomplish the vision, and develop a holistic ministry campus, every member and friend will be given an opportunity to support and serve as a champion of the vision through our "Meet Me At Galilee: A Journey of Faith" stewardship campaign. Through direct involvement, we must use our collective resources - time, talent, and treasure as a means of taking care of God's world, the environment, the people, and our community. We may not possess the same abilities. We may not have the same amount of money, but we all have the same amount of time every day. Join me in this "Journey of Faith" from Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to Northampton Drive as we seek to Exalt, Educate, Empower, Encourage and help all to Enjoy the blessings that our God has bestowed upon us.

My earnest prayer is that God will continue to bless our church spiritually, physically, financially, and numerically, as God has done since 1954. Galilee is a great church destined to do greater works for the Kingdom of Almighty God. For we must never forget that all of the privileges we enjoy are rooted in the dreams, faith, hope, sacrificial commitment and love of those who paved the way for the success of this anointed ministry. We are, after all, the beneficiaries of much prayer, sacrifice and supplication.

Over the next three years, I challenge the Galilee family and friends to seek God and strive to complete the vision that He has for our church and the community we serve. The word of God says, "Prove me now herewith, said the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it." (Malachi 3:10). I strongly encourage you to search your heart and hear from God on your commitment. In this "Journey of Faith", partner with me and my family as we declare our financial support and confidence in the vision that will help to change a generation for the Kingdom.

Please do not become weary in well doing and allow the adversary to hinder you from honoring your commitment to this stewardship capital campaign. "For we walk by faith and not by sight" (II Corinthians 5:7). Together, we must broaden our scope of ministry, eradicate the limitations, embrace our mission, expand our view of the church and commit ourselves to "The Journey of Faith". Do you see what I see?

Dear Galilee,

Glory to God in the Highest!  Christ is alive!  Today! Tomorrow!  Always!  Even unto the end of the world!  Hallelujah!

As we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ we want to take this opportunity to bestow upon each of you the blessings of this holiday season.  The season of Advent challenges us to fulfill John the Baptist's exhortation:  "Prepare the way of the Lord" (Matthew 3:3).  The word "Advent" means coming or arrival.  In its basic meaning, it is a direct reference to the historical coming of Christ in human form.  It also refers to the ascended Lord, who will return at the end of time as we know it to bring about the fullness of God's kingdom.  Advent is the season to watch and wait-expectantly, prayerfully, and joyfully.  It is also a time to make ready for the second coming of Jesus Christ.  Are we ready?

Each year, I embrace every opportunity to share that Christmas is more than just a holiday; it is a Holy day. It is a time when we are most reminded of God's gift to the world of his only son, the Christ child, to raise us up out of our sinful condition into Grace and the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.   John 3:16 gives us the message of Christmas and the mission of Christ. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."  What a wonderful blessing it is to know the Christ of Christmas!

In the spirit of the season, please receive this gift of love from the hearts of the membership of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.  Have a blessed holiday!  We're praying for your health, wealth and strength.

Merry Christmas,

Pastor Nathan E. Scovens
